If you needed any further evidence that the 2007 New York Jets are a bad football team, all you need is to point to this game. The Jets were absolutely hideous on offense, with the offensive line being the number one culprit. The Titans’ Kyle Vanden Bosch was a beast–three sacks while making any one who stood in his way look Lilliputian-like. Pennington was sacked six times overall, and he didn’t have any time to make plays.
In addition, although Chad Pennington had a statistically good game (26 of 32, 264 yards, 1 TD), he threw two interceptions, with the one in the end zone, after Coach Mangini opted to take three points off the board and take the penalty, being the back-breaker. Actually, the coach made the right call in my opinion, but the offense just couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to take the lead. It’s too bad that Jerricho Cotchery’s great game (8 catches, 152 yards, 1 TD) went to waste.
The defense was alright, although LenDale White rushed for 103 yards. Vince Young was no great shakes, but again, the Jets could not make the one big play on defense to change the game.
Let’s not forget the blocked extra point and Mike Nugent’s awful field-goal attempt, and what you get is a paltry six-point effort against a team who really doesn’t seem to pose much of a threat if they make the playoffs.
This was a terrible game and the Jets should be ashamed of themselves for not winning it. They had many opportunities to make plays and grab the game by the throat, but as usual, they come up wanting. Thank goodness next Sunday’s game against the Chiefs is the final one of the season. It can’t come fast enough.
