Jake Gyllenhall to play Joe Namath in filmLong-time Jet fans like me have a soft spot in our hearts for Number 12, Joe Willie Namath. In addition, most of us have always felt that “Broadway Joe” was a walking, talking, deep-passing Hollywood movie. It now seems that we’ll be seeing Number 12 up on the big screen in the near future.

Reports indicate that Universal Studios will be making a movie about Joe Namath, and Jake Gyllenhall is set to star as our hero. Apparently, the movie will be an overview of Joe’s life from his youth in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to his glory days as the quarterback of the New York Jets and Madison Avenue advertising icon.

As someone who worshipped him in my youth, I am looking forward to seeing this movie once it gets made and hits the big screen. I sincerely hope that the writer(s) don’t take too much dramatic license with Joe’s story and make it out to be where although he was a star quarterback and playboy in public, he was a lonely and depressed guy in private. The real story is that Joe was (and is) a fun-loving guy who enjoys life and embraces his fame. Sure, like everyone else, he’s had his share of problems, including divorce and alcoholism, but who among us hasn’t had difficulties in life?

Anyway, I and am sure many other Jet fans will be eagerly anticipating this movie. Let’s hope it’s done right.
