That’s what New Jersey Senate president Richard J. Codey said yesterday in reaction to the fallout over the controversy regarding the behavior of Jet fans on the Gate D ramp at Giants Stadium.
The fallout over the story has been widespread. It was all over sports talk radio, mentioned on numerous websites and blogs (including this one), and was a major story on a number of television news programs.
The fact of the matter is that this situation is a huge embarassment to the Jets, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, and the NFL. Obviously, you can never stop fans from getting drunk and being obnoxious at games, but when they gather in packs to harass other innocent fans, then you have to do something.
As is typical in stories like this, everyone is pointing the finger of blame at someone else. The Meadowlands officials say that you can’t stop large groups of men from shouting things at people other than “reasoning” with them (how can you possibly “reason” with a drunken idiot?).
However, it seems the attention this story has gotten has prompted all parties to take swift action to prevent this situation from occurring. The strategy will include ejections, arrests, and revocation of tickets. In addition, the New Jersey State Police announced they will step up their presence at the stadium, so if any of you drunken idiots want to pick a fight with a state trooper, then you’re even stupider than you already are.
