The sting of yesterday’s loss still lingers. I still have visions of Lee Evans scampering to the endzone after his wrestling match for the football with Darelle Revis. It’s now a question of how high a draft pick will the Jets have come next spring, as this season has blown up in our faces.
Although nothing has been said officially yet, it would not be a stretch to predict that Coach Mangini will name Kellen Clemens as the starter for next Sunday’s game against the Redskins. Let’s hope that the coach doesn’t lapse into his Bill Belichick imitation of being avasive and just stay on point. Announce the switch and move on.
In addition, I think most Jet fans realize that Clemens will not be the one to save the season–it’s a lost cause. We just want to see what he has and whether he is the future of the franchise. The next eight games should give us a fairly good idea of what his potential is, and the Jet braintrust should give him every opportunity to succeed, such as allowing him to throw the ball deep.
We’ve all been hard on Chad Pennington, and he hasn’t exactly endeared himself to the fans this year with his play. But he IS a class act, and I don’t think any self-respecting Jet fan will bury him, because he’s done too much for this franchise and does not deserve to be treated harshly. Let’s just thank him for his efforts, and now it’s time to turn the page.
