Jets vs. Bills Preview

jets_logo.jpgWell here we are, eight weeks into the horror show that is the 2007 Jets. (It IS Halloween, you know!) I sort of have a “what’s the difference” type of attitude about today’s game. If the Jets win, fine; if they lose, so what? A 1-6 record is not going to turn to 7-6 overnight, and this team is not going to go on any type of run anyway.

Today marks the rematch against the Bills. In the first game up in Buffalo a few weeks ago, costly interceptions from Chad Pennington cost the Jets the game, while Bills quarterback Trent Edwards managed the game beautifully for his team. For the Jets, they have to establish the running game early, so look for Thomas Jones to get the ball often. The Jet fans are going to be on Pennington’s back if he makes any mistakes, so the best way to keep the pressure off is to have your feature back pound the ball.

Defensively, it all goes back to the pass rush. The last few weeks have demonstrated that no pressure on the opposing quarterback equals no victories, so the trend can’t continue any further. With the news that Jonathan Vilma is going to be out for the year, rookie linebacker David Harris now has a chance to show us what he’s got.

It should be another close game today, but if Pennington throws another pick late, it could be his last pass as a Jet.

See you later…
