  • Jonathan VilmaWhat exactly is the deal with Jonathan Vilma? It pretty much is confirmed that he has a knee injury, but is he out for a few weeks or out for the year? Coach Mangini hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with the information, and we know he hasn’t been to pleased with Vilma’s production in the 3-4 defense. It’s a very confusing situation–Vilma was a heralded pick coming out of the draft a few years ago, and after a very good rookie season, he seemed destined for a bright future. However, the last couple of years have featured inconsistent play, and it’s a question as to whether he’ll be a Jet in 2008.
  • The viewpoint from at least one Bills fan is that the wildcard in this week’s game is the Jets special teams unit, particularly Leon Washington’s ability to return kicks and punts for significant yardage. I’m still not all that comfortable with him in that role, only because I think he could be a real weapon on offense in 3rd-down situations, but he has done a great job so far, no question about it.
  • Do the Jets think they are the reincarnation of the 1999 St. Louis Rams with the way they run their offense? They rely a lot on motion, short passes, and timing patterns, but they don’t have the 1999 version of Kurt Warner at quarterback, either. Back then, Warner could throw a football through a brick wall, and obviously the Jets’ starting quarterback does not have that capability.
