Well, this is going to be a tough watch today. I’m going to be switching back and forth between this game and the Mets, so my remote will probably be smoking by late afternoon. In any event, here’s my two cents on the game between the 1-2 Jets and the 0-3 Bills.
The Bills are very banged up–their starting quarterback J.P. Losman is out, their #1 pick linebacker Paul Posluszny is out for the year, and other key players won’t be in the lineup, either. In other words, they’re thin at some very important positions, so you would think the advantage is clearly on the Jets’ side.
However, the Jet defensive line has not done much to rush the quarterback so far this season, and they haven’t been too successful in stopping the run (Ronnie Brown shredded them last week). It is absolutely essential that they put pressure on Bills QB Trent Edwards today while also limiting Marshawn Lynch’s ability to get to the outside. It’s no secret that Lynch will carry the ball a lot today, so putting eight men in the box may not be such a bad idea.
On offense, the Jets need to continue to establish the run and give Thomas Jones the ball as often as possible. With the Bills being thin in the linebacking corps, Jones should be able to break a few tackles and make some hay while Chad Pennington could have some success with play action. The Jets should be able to score some points today.
Overall, everything seems to be in line for a solid Jet win today, but strange things always seem to happen when they play in Buffalo. They should not let the Bills get any early momentum. We’ll check back later…
